I am a super smart dog trainer
What is a balanced trainer?
It is our job as dog trainers to not only communicate with you as the owner in a way you can understand, but to also communicate with your dog in a way they can understand. We do not communicate in the same ways so we utilize training tools to help us!
The analogy I like to use is imagine you have two children. The first child asks nicely for a cookie out of the cookie jar. This child is given a cookie because they asked nicely. The second child waits for you to leave the kitchen to steal a cookie. This child is now not given a cookie for the next few days and is told why they aren’t allowed to do that and what they should have done instead in order to earn that cookie. Dogs need to be rewarded when they do the things we want, and they need to be corrected when they don’t. This is done in a very specific way that makes what you want them to do very clear. Done properly your dog is set up for success!
That being said, we utilize all four quadrants of operant conditioning. A balance of positive reinforcement, as well as correctional and communication tools has proven time and time again to be the most efficient and effective way to train a dog. Prong and E collar’s are the two most frequently used tools that when used and introduced correctly are some of the safest things you could use on your dog.
